Dr. Song Lyu has performed as a soloist, showing her talents in oratorio, opera, and on the concert stage. She has been a guest artist with Kansas City Chinese Association, and Horizon Music & Arts Foundation. Her stage performances include Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, The Second Knitter in Game of Chance, La Fortuna in L’incoronazione di Poppea, and Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, among others. Her other performance experiences include solo soprano in the world premiere of Psalm Symphony, H.175 by Leo Sowerby, the roles in scenes of Lakmé, La Traviata, La clemenza di Tito, Così fan Tutte, Lucia di Lammermoor, Into the Woods, Hansel and Gretel, etc. Over the past year, she has appeared in the premiere of the opera Chew On This as Chew’s Mother and performed Seahorse in One Choice as part of the “Come As You Are” project at Lyric Opera of Kansas City. She also sang as the solo soprano in Neil Harmon’s Requiem in Webster Groves Presbyterian Church and took part in several major productions with the St. Louis Symphony, including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Orchestra and Grieg’s Peer Gynt.
She is also active in academic and community music events. She founded the KU Chamber and Vocal Music (KUCVM), the International Chamber and Vocal Music Institute (ICVMI), and the Golden Choir Program at KS and MO. She has attended many concerts at Kansas and Missouri, and directed the 2022 “Singing at KC” Vocal Audition as well as the voice section of the 2023 KCCA Lunar New Year Gala. Since the 2023 fall, she has successfully produced three ICVMI Midwest Chamber and Vocal Music Competitions. As a teacher, she is the Assistant Professor at Midwest University as well as the Adjunct Voice Professor at CMS of Webster University, and has built her own studio in the St Louis Area. She got her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree and Performance Certificate from the University of Kansas.
